APPROXIMATE ESTIMATION

ESTIMATING QUANTITIES

PROJECT : RESIDENTIAL BUILDING

BUILT-UP AREA : 100000 sq ft

1) CONCRETE:

Concrete = 1.5 to 2 cubic ft per sq ft of built up area.

This quantity would increase slightly for a building having basements as extra concrete would go in the raft, retaining walls and to the ramps to basement.

Example: Consider concrete = 1.5 cubic ft per sq ft.
                                              = 1.5 x 100000
                                              = 150000 cubic ft
which is = 4248 cubic mt of concrete.

2) STEEL:

Steel = 5 to 6 kg per sq ft of built up area.

High rise buildings require more steel in the columns and amount of steel per sq ft built up area would increase with the height of the building.

Example: Consider steel = 5 kg per sq ft
                                        = 5 x 100000
                                        = 500000 kg
which is equal to 500 ton of steel.

3) BRICKWORK:

Brickwork = 1.3 times the built up area.

However, the total area of the walls would depend a lot on the size of rooms.

Example: Brickwork area = 1.3 x 100000
                                         = 130000 sq ft

4) PLASTERING WORK:

Plastering work = 2.5 to 3 times of the brick work area.

Note that this also includes ceiling & staircase plastering.

Example: Consider plastering area = 3 x 130000 sq ft
                                                        = 390000 sq ft
